Hi, VINCE GOES FISHING here, and today I’d like to share a game-changing technique for bait fishing with squid. It’s called the Weave Method. Simply put, you can wrap a piece of squid about twenty times with Magic Thread and then weave the hook tip through these threads so it stays on the hook. The specifics of this technique are difficult to put into words, so these videos will show you how.
The fish cannot steal the bait, and you get a solid hook set more often.
Here is another example of a Cabezon that got hooked instantly, and could not shake the deep hook-set, because the weave method is so effective.
The fish simply cannot steal the bait off the hook. Instead, you get a deep hookset and land more fish!
It was September 2022 that I came up with this method. I was shooting a fishing video on Vandenberg Base, Point Parisma with some friends. I was getting a lot of bites, but few hooksets, and the fish I hooked kept coming off the hook halfway in.
I stopped and thought about what was happening physically, and then had this breakthrough. You can actually watch this moment on this video, start watching starting at 8:55.
One final tip, you can use a sharp knife to easily remove all the extra magic thread off your hook, to re-bait your hook with a fresh weave of squid again.
Use this trick anytime you are bait fishing with squid, to ensure it stays on the hook, and so do the fish!
