Pelicans... A Striped Bass Fisherman’s Best Friend

Today I have a great tip for those of you who are trying to catch striped bass in the surf. As you learned from my previous episodes there are a handful of conditions to look for when hunting striped bass; Freshwater outlets, high tides at full moon, storm fronts or recent rain. In the presence of bait. How do you know when bait is in the water? You either see the bait on the surface, or you see predators busting the bait on the surface, or you look for pelicans! Any time you are surf fishing, Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for pelicans. Pay attention to how far offshore they are flying. If they are flying in close or over your head then hold on tight because that means there’s bait in the water and there’s probably striped bass swarming right in front of you!
